Virtual Reality, 3D Design, Autodesk Maya and Unity

Between Two Bedrooms in Arles is about the time period in between Vincent Van Gogh painting his first and second version of his famous ‘The Bedroom’ painting in the Yellow House. The purpose of this project is to explore the history of an important time in Vincent Van Gogh’s life and to gain insight into his personality, life, and motivations behind his art and his art style. Using the CAVE 2, we were able to recreate the two Bedrooms in Arles, Paul Gauguin’s Chair, and more into an immersive virtual reality experience. The model we used for the two bedrooms is open sourced, and stays true to the originals by having textures pulled from the actual paintings themselves.

THE CHALLENGE: How can we create an immersive Van Gogh experience that is visually stunning and informative using CAVE 2?

WHAT YOU WILL SEE: Pictures of the project brought to life on the CAVE2.

THE RESULTS: A surreal learning experience that lets you see into the life, mind, and eyes of Vincent Van Gogh.

PROJECT VIDEO

Please note that everyone in the video is wearing glasses; This is because the CAVE 2 was capable of projecting 3D visuals similar to that of modern 3D movies. This helped further envelop the audience into the life and mind of Vincent Van Gogh.
